Growth in Contour

Art

At the beginning of the year in art, we had to study and practice something called blind contour drawing. This is when you have to draw something without looking at your paper, ever. We had to practice drawing various things, like our hand, pictures on the screen, and people’s faces. At the beginning of the unit, when I started, it was bad. But, I persevered. I began to see an actual reason for it. It wasn’t all about getting better at drawing something without looking, or to grow in our skills of perspective, or hand-eye coordination, but really, to me at least, most of all, in  open-mindedness. After this, I started to enjoy this more, and I got better. As I got better at making them, I had a more open mind. As I had a more open mind, I got even better. This, by no definition, means that they were good per say, but it wasn’t about how good those were, it was about how my mind opened up to new things.
